New brew to toast Seasiders
An award winning Yorkshire brewer has rolled out a special beer to toast Blackpool’s entry to the Premiership League.
Acorn Brewery in Barnsley is run by ardent Seasiders’ supporter Dave Hughes – who was exiled to east of the Pennines several years ago with marriage to South Yorkshire girl Judi.
Now Dave is offering Tower Power brew to pubs around the Fylde coast in time for the start of the new football season in August. Blackpool won promotion with a 3-2 play off victory against Cardiff last May.
Cask conditioned Tower Power ABV 4.1%), named after a Bloomfield Road chant, is described as’ rich amber coloured ale with fruit and hop notes throughout and a lasting sweet bitterness in the finish’. It has an attractive tangerine pump clip.
Dave Hughes said: “I have followed the Seasiders since I was a young lad at school in Blackpool and when they won promotion last season it was a terrific day for me. So I thought it would be well worth marking their first season with a tasty new beer. It’s a smooth beer with plenty of body and the strength to give a powerful performance with a striking finish – just as we pray the team will in their first Premiership season.”
One of Yorkshire’s fastest growing brewers, since brewing began in July 2003 Acorn has doubled in size to a 100 barrel a week capacity and won more than forty brewing awards from both Camra (Campaign for Real Ale) and industry bodies - including a silver accolade for Barnsley Bitter from the Great British Beer Festival. Now Acorn directly supplies hundreds of pubs across Yorkshire and the North West, while leading wholesalers distribute Acorn beers throughout the UK.
