Former Group Chairman John Grogan, MP for Selby including Tadcaster from 1997 until the recent Election was last night(14th July) named Beer Drinker of the Year 2010 at the Parliamentary Beer Awards dinner in London, in recognition of his tireless campaigning on behalf of beer and pubs during his time in Parliament. Former licensing minister Gerry Sutcliffe MP received the award on his behalf from Nigel Evans MP, Honorary President of the Beer Group.
The Beer Groups Brewer of the Year, chosen by members of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling, was Stefano Cossi, Head Brewer of Thornbridge Hall in Derbyshire.
A Lifetime Achievement Award for more than 30 years of dedicated service to the cause of brewing in the UK and beyond was lately retired Dr David Long, former Director Brewing and then Acting Chief Executive of the British Beer and Pub Associaiton.
More than two hundred Members of Parliament, Peers and leaders of the beer and pub industry gathered at the awards dinner to pay tribute to the award winners, and to enjoy carefully selected beers from around the UK matched with the courses of the meal.
